The US Census Bureau released its 2009 yearly estimates last week and it is no surprise that Lexington remained an Educational Attainment powerhouse. Among people over 25 years old, 40.2% have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Lexington! Even more impressive, 16.6% of Lexington’s population over age 25 has an advanced degree (masters, doctorate, or professional)!

ACS to add 700 jobs in Lexington
Yesterday ACS, A Xerox Company, announced the expansion of their presence in Lexington, KY with 700 new jobs. ACS already employs close to 4,000 in Kentucky, 2,000 of which are in Lexington. The new site, ACS’ fifth Lexington location, will focus heavily on contracts in the healthcare industry. All 700 jobs are expected to be filled in the next six to eight weeks and between 200 and 400 of the jobs will become permanent.

Employment in the First Half of 2010
Jobs are the central focus of much of the population these days. Unemployment is high, but not scary high, in Lexington. Still, hovering in the mid to high 7s, the current unemployment rate is roughly double what we averaged in the middle of the 2000s. So how is 2010 shaping up compared to 2009?
